The airline industry as a whole has become the biggest rip off that the consumer is forced to endure, like the insurance companies that have a zillion lobbyist telling lawmakers what insurance to force down our throats next, the airline industry takes a #2 seat in devising means and ways to take our hard earned cash and line their pockets with them. I believe that they actually have departmental meetings in which they probably give the employee whose idea of ripping the public off a nice big fat bonus". I purchase an airline ticket through Delta last year for a trip that I had going to Vegas well I had an illness in the family and I had to postpone my trip, I tried to transfer the tickets to a friend that was willing to pay me for them but of course that was not allowed/. So they told me that the tickets were good for a year?. They were bought on March 27 of last year!. Today I get a call from my sister in Puerto Rico that my father who happens to be 100 years old is not feeling well and I decided hey I have a round trip ticket that I haven't used and I call Delta and proceeded to make travel arrangements, well that was short lived because I was told by one of their customer rip off representatives that I could use the tickets but all travel had to be finalized by the 27th in other words I would have to depart the 27th and return the 27th/. Needless to say I now find myself looking for an affordable flight'. So lets see they got my money and delivered nothing to me that's a rip off /. If I was to do something like that it would be called theft and it would be punishable by law but then again I'm not an insurance company, or an Airline.. I have scratched this one DELTA off my list and I suggest you do the same. 128ec15

Delta stinks I travel very frequestly and refuse to use Delta. Their customer service is horrible. The change flight charges are enormous their baggage fees are outragous. I would suggest you use any other airlines. Personally I have to drive further but I take Southwest any time I can. Don't use Delta.

Delta is a big union employer, so you will find higher prices, unhappy employees, and lots of restrictions. Fly the little guys once in a while. Air travel is still a bargain if you think about it. We do need a good high speed rail system for medium length travel trips.

I agree airlines suck, having said that couldn't you have flown one way, and then bought a one way back at a cheaper price?

No airlines tickets have a validity date that are stated in the rules of the ticket. If you bought the ticket online you agreed to the rules of the ticket when you check that little box. if you didn't its not the airlines fault. Many times people are just ill informed and do not know the restrictions of the ticket

Delta in my opinion is a great airline I fly on them a lot and they never let me down. The cabins are always clean and the seat are comfortable. The crews are pleasant and professional and will go out of their way to help you. I also like that they offer Wi-Fi onboard for a small fee something really no other airline offers. :grin

To me, an airline ticket is a kind of a gift certificate if it lasts for longer than the trip date. Under the law, at least in certain states, a gift certificate, cannot ever expire. Airlines should be held accountable to this same law and tickets should never expire. The other ripoff that airlines pull is if you need to change the ticket. In many cases, the charge to change a ticket costs as much as (if not more than) the cost of a new ticket. So, they rip you off in two ways. You've lost your old ticket as you can't change it. You are basically forced to rebook new tickets in order to pay less than the change fee.
